What Can Noise Cancelling Headphones Do For You?

Do you often feel that you're going to go deaf sooner than later because you blast your headphones on the top volume peak possible? Wait, you didn't hear me? Turn your volume down some. I said, if you feel that you're going to go deaf because of your loud volume, you probably are! Just kidding, but you get my drift. People are used to having to turn the volume up way too high in order to get everything out of their favorite song, from the high kicks to the deep rifts. If you are a victim of this practice and wish that you could find a happy medium between turning the volume down some and hearing every element in your favorite song, you might have found your answer with noise cancelling headphones.

The First Years Jet Lightweight Stroller

What are Noise Cancelling Headphones?

The First Years Jet Lightweight Stroller

Noise cancelling headphones fit into the new world of technology as a new way to listen to and truly enjoy the quality of music coming from you music source. The new technology has taken the world by storm, giving many people the opportunity to listen to their music without having to turn it all the way up in order to hear all of the subtleties that make it great.

The way they are able to create a crystal clear sound without you having to turn them up is by reducing the ambient (or acoustic) noise in the headset by the speakers. They placed a microphone near the ear that creates a sound wave called antinoise. The sound wave is said to have the opposite polarity of the sound wave that arrives as the microphone. This means, when they meet, they cancel other out; this is called phase cancellation. Once phase cancellation occurs, a new sound wave is produced called destructive interference. The original sound wave is then placed a higher volume than the new sound wave, which eliminates unwanted noise. The end result is a crisp quality of music that allows you to hear every aspect of sound placed in the song.

Noise cancelling headphones have become so popular than many are getting in on the action by creating unique styles, as well as making them available for more devices. So now, you can find these quality headphones at varying price ranges, in over-the-ear, on-the-ear, or even in-the-ear styles, and for everything from your stereo or computer to your handheld musical device.

Bluetooth

I'm sure by now you've heard about Bluetooth technology. You've probably seen the Bluetooth earpiece attached to someone's ear as they've walked down the street looking as though they're talking to themselves. The earpiece, however, is one of the many innovations that have come from the company that specializes in wireless, hands-free technology. In addition to earpieces for your cell phone, they create everything from wireless GPS systems that communicate to your laptop, technology that allows your computer and printer to read pictures from your cell phone, and even blood pressure monitors that can communicate your blood pressure readings to your doctor automatically.

One of their other innovations is the wireless headphone that communicates directly to your iPod, MP3 player or even home stereo through an adapter, or directly if the device is Bluetooth-enabled. And now, many stereo manufacturers are creating Bluetooth-enabled, noise cancelling headphones. So in addition to being able to wear your headphones while moving around your home independent of the device you are listening to, you can enjoy the great quality of noise cancellation too!

For iPods and MP3 Players

The good news is that you can find great noise cancelling headphones that will work well with your iPod or MP3 player. In addition to being able to find Bluetooth-enabled, wireless headphones, you can now get some that even work to create the crystal-clear sound you want straight from your handheld device. So now, if you want to travel with your iPod but don't like the sound quality coming from your complimentary earbuds, you can use your new headset with noise cancellation technology to truly enjoy your trip with the music you love.

Who Offers the Good Ones?

Of course, like everything else, once manufacturers see a good product being sold on the market, they make a point to get in on the action. Unfortunately, this practice may not work as a benefit to you because you may find noise cancellation packaging without the quality to go with it. So to help you out, I have listed a few products on the market that are said to be creating the sound quality they advertise.

Bose Quiet Comfort 2 - Apparently these noise cancelling headphones are all the rage in airline magazines because they provide so much of a distraction to those wanting to avoid the obnoxious sounds of jet engines and babies crying while in mid-flight. They are said to be one of the best headsets on the market (and for the 0 price tag, they darn well better be!). Reviewers say that these incredible headphones block out noise even if music is turned off, and when you do turn it on, the crystal-clear quality will suffer absolutely no interruptions.

Sony MDR-NC33 - These headphones are seen as a jewel among reviewers because they provide great cancellation quality in a small, lightweight package. They are lightweight because they come in the form of earbuds. These great phones are said to have great bass quality, a nice high-frequency clarity and, of course, the absence of ambient sound. One of the downfalls of them, however, is that they are said to have a little hiss, so for the 0 price tag, it is my suggestion that you check them out at your local electronics store before committing to a purchase.

The best way to learn more about noise cancelling headphones is to do your research. Because the good ones tend to be in the pricier range, you want to make sure you get exactly what you desire for the price you're paying. While I know the Internet is a great source for finding products on sale, I highly recommend you test some noise cancelling headphones out in person before buying them online. That way you won't be disappointed when you still have to turn the volume all the way up to hear the sound quality you desire.

Travel With an Infant or Toddler 101: On an Airplane

If you had told me 2 years ago that I would be an expert at traveling with a baby/ toddler in tow, I would not have believed you. Fast forward to two years later, and my family and I have traveled on various occasions both domestically and internationally with our daughter, now only 19 months old. Truth be told, this is not because we necessarily wanted to, but we had to. Once courtship is over, the traditional sequence of things is that you get married and then you start having kids.

The First Years Jet Lightweight Stroller

If you are fortunate or plan well, you will get to do some traveling before you start having kids. But, what happens after you have kids? Should you stop traveling all together? My answer is of course not. Short of hiring a traveling nanny, the only viable options some have are:

The First Years Jet Lightweight Stroller

a) Don't travel at all (wait until the kids move out and ship out)
b) Make sure all future vacations involve Mickey Mouse or other fictional character
A fortunate few also have this as an option:
c) Call mom, a grandparent or other family member to visit with the kids while the parents (you and spouse) go on a trip.

But what if you don't have any family around, the next best thing is:

d) Saddle up the little one(s) and take them with you!

Here are some tips that will make your next trip with the baby so much easier (It does not have to be an oxymoron).

Buy the Ticket

If traveling by plane, make sure to tell the airline carrier that you will be traveling with an infant or toddler. Domestic flights to the continental United States will not cost anything extra for children less than 2 years old not using a seat. This is called "infant in arms". However, if you chose to put your child in a car seat during travel (which would occupy a passenger seat), you have to pay the full adult fare. If traveling internationally, be prepared to pay 10% of the adult fare for the infant/toddler's seat even though they will be seated in your lap.

If you are uncomfortable about the security of traveling with your little one in your lap during the flight, then ask the flight attendant for a lab belt attachment. Some air line carriers have this seat belt attachment available which connects to the standard adult seat belt.

Bring the Necessary Documents

When traveling with your little one, be sure to pack your child's birth certificate. It is also a good idea to get the document laminated to keep it clean. If you are traveling internationally, make sure that you have your child's passport. It does not matter if you are traveling with an infant, as long as you are traveling outside of the United States, all parties involved should have passports.

Pack Early

Even if you have prepared a list it is still possible to forget items if you don't start packing early. A list is no use if it does not have the items that you need. Travel jitters, fatigue and the overall excitement of the trip can all impede the best intentions to have a well executed list. TWBT (Traveling with a baby or toddler) can make things 10 tens more difficult. But, the easiest thing that you can do is start packing early. Pack the baby's things first.

Be sure not to forget items such as baby bottles, pacifiers, special toys, or books. Variety is the key. For longer trips consider uploading special children's shows or programs on personal laptops, tablets or portable viewing devices. Diapers and wipes should be packed first. Figure the number of diapers that you will need for the trip by calculating the number of typical diaper changes in one day, multiplied by the number of days of the trip. If you are checking luggage be sure that you also pack a "carry-on bag" with some diapers, wipes, milk, food, a change of clothes and other essentials. Be sure to do this for both going and returning. When traveling to the domestic US however, you can save on travel space if you opt to pack light and replenish items such as diapers and wipes at local stores throughout your trip.

Pack Light

Big items such as strollers, play yards and car seats may be left at home if you plan well. If your baby is 25 pounds or less, consider leaving the stroller at home. Infant wraps and carriers are quite sophisticated. Many are designed to accommodate kids up to 25 pounds and sometimes even more (depending on the carrier). Less bulky than a stroller, baby carriers are a great alternative to use during travel. If you must bring a stroller along, consider traveling with a light weight alternative such as an umbrella variety.

If you do have to travel with the stroller, be sure to ask the airlines if they have a stroller bag or cover available for passenger use. Although, I have only seen this service available with international airline carriers, you should still ask. An alternative is to purchase your own stroller bag and have it on hand for all your travels. Taking the stroller without a stroller bag may seem tempting but, think of this: When the stroller is unloaded from the plane it can encounter everything from dirt, soot, grease, grime, rain or just a clumsy baggage handler. Do you really want your little prince or princess lying on a dirty stroller?

That goes the same for the car seat. Car seat covers are available for car seats from online merchandisers as well. But, you do not have to travel with a car seat either. Consider renting a car seat from a rent-a-car company if you are renting a car. If you will have access to a driver or chauffer at your final destination, ask if they have a car seat available for client use.

Alternatively, if visiting a destination where you have family and friends that have kids, consider asking your friend(s) to borrow their car seat or stroller if they are not currently in use.
Lastly, play yards, cribs and bassinets do not need to be dragged along on your trip if you are staying at a hotel. Most hotels have cribs and baby cots available for guest use. Make sure to call ahead to verify before you get to your destination.

Choosing the Right Pram for your Baby

Choosing the correct pram or travel system for your child is one of the biggest purchases you will make when your new child is born. Prams, Pushchairs and Travel Systems can cost well over a hundred pounds and will be used by you for many years, and if you have more children in the future a good quality pram will last as long as you have children.

The First Years Jet Lightweight Stroller

One of the first main considerations to think about is your lifestyle, do you like walking a lot? Will you be walking over rough ground? Or do you prefer to use the car more? Will you be travelling on public transport with your child a lot of the time?

The First Years Jet Lightweight Stroller

There are several options to think about these include Traditional Prams, Two in one, Three in One, Pushchairs, Buggies/Strollers, Three Wheelers, Travel Systems and Double/Triple Buggies and Pushchairs.

Traditional Prams

These are suitable from birth, they are large bodied or smaller soft bodied but do not convert to pushchairs. They tend to be large wheeled chassis with full spring suspension. The carry top is detachable from the chassis and has carry handles, carrying these tend to be best over short distances as they can be heavy. They tend not to be easily transportable by car or public transport.

Two in One Pushchairs

A 2 in 1 pram is a lie flat pushchair and separate chassis. The pushchair unit can be used from birth, facing you or facing away. There is normally a choice of chassis, fixed wheel with suspension for walking or swivel for easily manoeuvring in busy places. A two in one pram comes with a removable washable liner and when used with a mattress creates a carrycot.

Three in One

A 3 in 1 pram is a carrycot, separate pushchair unit and chassis. The carrycot is suitable for overnight sleeping (with a safety mattress) from birth until around 6 months. Then the pushchair unit can be used facing you or facing away. The pushchair unit has a reclining back rest and adjustable footrest. There is a choice of chassis available, a larger wheel chassis with fixed wheels and suspension is ideal for walking giving more comfort to you baby and yourself. A swivel wheeled chassis will be lighter in weight, fold smaller, easier to manoeuvre and convenient for the car. Most chassis have adjustable handle heights.

Pushchairs

A lightweight pushchair or stroller is ideal if you will be using public transport, going on holiday and using the car. Some models are suitable from birth. The normally have a lie flat facility with a 5 point harness, lockable swivel wheels and a shopping basket.

Buggies and Strollers

These tend to be quite varied but will have a combination of the following features.

Fully reclining seats will be suitable from birth.

Others are suitable from 3 months or 6 months

Between 1 and 5 position reclining seat.

5 point harness.

Lockable swivel wheels.

Lightweight frame.

Umbrella fold for easy storage

Optional car seat

Three Wheelers

A 3 wheeler pushchair is perfect for walking, whether on city streets or on rougher ground, some models have an optional first stage car seat and carrycot, this gives you a flexible choice. Consider the size of the pushchair folded and whether you have sufficient space in your car or home.

Travel System

A travel system offers a lie flat pushchair suitable from birth and a Stage 0+ car seat, a travel system is ideal for the car, as the pushchair folds compactly to fit in the boot, the baby can be carried around easily in the car seat, the car seat then attaches to the pushchair unit. The pushchair unit is
always facing away from you, the car seat when fitted into the pushchair allows the baby to be facing you.

Double and Tripple Buggies/Pushchairs

A fully recling side by side double buggy is suitable for newborn twins/triplets or a baby and a toddler.

YZ125 Vs YZ250F - The Million Dollar Match-Up

Does the torque of the YZ250F make it that much better than the light and snappy YZ125? We have to dig a little deeper than what the media and government says. I think we all know that most motocross companies are pushing for the four-strokes because they are "eco-friendly" by not producing as much pollution as the two-strokes. But for this battle we will totally scratch those opinionated facts out because they don't mean a thing in the motocross realm.

The First Years Jet Lightweight Stroller

I have ridden Yamaha's YZ250F's and YZ125's, and can say that they are two different kind of animals. Both motocross bikes have plenty of power and will require some balls to ride, but are about as reliable as you can get as far as motocross bikes go. Each bike has its ups and downs, but the question is, "which one is better?" Well you'll have to wait until I do a little more research on these bikes....... Just kidding.

The First Years Jet Lightweight Stroller

YZ125

Ahhh, the smell of pre-mix in the morning! Are two-strokes making a come-back? Well, I'll cover that in a future article... The YZ125 is a serious piece of art. It's been rated the number 125cc motocross bike in magazines and websites more than any other 125 two-stroke. The light-weight makes it flick-able, the raw horsepower begs it to be revved to the moon, and the suspension is top notch. There's no question that this bike is ready to race right out of the box. Although you might have to re-jet the carburetor if you are riding in an extreme climate.

How Does It Handle?

Pretty much any modern 125 two-stroke is going to handle well these days, and the YZ is no exception. The handling is among the best in its class. It will ride any berm and the front end will stick pretty well in those pesky ruts. What I like about the 125 is that it has a really low center of gravity compared to the four-stroke, so it made it a lot easier to lay in down in the corners. I am a shorter rider (5'6''), so having a bike that handles well in corners is a must. The YZ125 felt comfortable to ride and cockpit was narrow while the 250F was a little more bulky.

What's The Suspension Like?

You want good suspension? You got it! The YZ125 suspension set-up is great right off the showroom floor. If you weigh more than 180 or less than 140 lbs then you might want to consider getting some softer fork and shock Springs though. The stock suspension has really good bottoming resistance and can handle a lot. It feels great on any kind of obstacle. Although it may be a little mushy for A or pro riders. The forks soaked up most of the braking bumps and the bike was very controllable in the air and in the corners. It felt stable at all speeds.

What About the Engine?

The engine may be the two-strokes' greatest set-back against the 250f, but it is no slouch. Any skilled rider will be competitive on this little ripper. The YZ125 may not have the torque that the 250F does, but it has the horsepower to make up for it. Yamaha's 125 is known for it's do-it-all engine. It does have more bottom-end power than any other 125 two-stroke I've ridden. The mid-range has some punch, and the top-end is never-ending fun. All you have to do is keep this bike on the pipe then you will be able to pass those 250F's, that's it.

Additional Notes...

Above are the main topics that riders ask about when deciding which bike to get. I just wanted to give you a few more facts about this bike that could factor into your decision. The YZ125 is a great motocross bike to start out on, and is perfect for younger riders just stepping up from and 85 that don't want a big four-stroke. This bike is cheaper and easier to maintain. The cost to rebuild any 125 will be less expensive than a 250F just because it's a two-stroke and has less moving internal parts. That doesn't mean you will be spending less, because if you don't maintain it, it will break down eventually. The YZ125 has always been very easy to start. If it's not, then you have a problem. One of the only extra things you have to do to this bike is add pre-mix to the gas before you put it in the tank and ride.

YZ250F

It's bigger... It's badder... Is it too much for the two-smoker to handle??? The YZ250F is the number one selling 250cc four-stroke motocross bike. Is there a reason for this? There must be, so let's check it out!

Does It Handle As Well?

A simple question, and it will be responded with a simple answer... "no." You can do anything you want to the bike, such as lowering the radiators, reducing the weight, or shaving the seat, but it's never going to handle as well as the two-stroke unless you do major modifications. That does not mean it handles poorly. Over the years Yamaha has turned their YZ250F tank into one of the best handling four-stroke dirt bikes. The newer the model, the better it gets. The main difference between this bike and the 125 is that it's top-heavy, meaning the center of gravity is at a higher location on the bike, causing it to be less stable. This is most noticed in the corners, so laying it down will be a little more difficult for shorter or younger riders.

How About Suspension?

Suspension on the 250F is great for 140-175 lb amateurs, similar to the 125. It has good bottoming resistance and handled jumps with ease. Not much else to say except that the suspension on the YZ250F's worked well for me.

Does The Engine Make Up For It?

The first time I rode a YZ250F I was blown away. Torque across the entire rev-range was unbelievable. This bike gives you the traction and power down low that you will never get from the 125. The "power-band" is not as fun as the two-stroke. The torque, though, will pull any 2-stroke out of corners. After riding a 250F for a while, the smooth, yet powerful engine just got a little...... I don't know if I should say it.... boring. It just wasn't as fun to ride around on as the two-stroke. Racing the YZ250F would be a different story. It's not exactly about riding whichever bike is more fun, it's about riding faster and more comfortably than the other riders. This bike helps out a lot on that part, but is it good enough to beat the 125?

Notes:

The YZ250F was the first four-stroke motocross bike in the 125 class, and has been the most reliable 250F the entire time. Take care of it and it will take care of you. The first years, 2001 & 2002, the bike had manual-decompression, making it a little more difficult and time-consuming to start. That can be fixed with an '03 or newer exhaust cam because Yamaha switched to auto-decompression. The YZF250 is probably the easiest 250F to kick start. I was usually able to start mine in 1-2 kicks when they were cold.

The bad part about owning a 250F is that it can grenade if you don't maintain it properly. If it does just "happen" to blow up, the cost of repairs can be enormous, especially if you have a shop to do it. This is one of the only reasons why I don't like the four-stroke motocross bikes, otherwise I would buy more of them.

And The Winner Is....

Neither bike, because they are just as good as each other...... You didn't want to hear that, did you? Good, because it's not true! After comparing the characteristics of these bikes that have been rivaling each other for the past decade, there are still pros and cons that each bikes has. My decision would be to go with the YZ125 because I love two-strokes and don't like big bills when they explode. For a racing scenario where money is no option and the only goal was to win then I will choose the YZ250F. It has the torque and horsepower that will beat the 125 on almost any track, the suspension is great for me out of the box, and it's just plain easier to ride faster. That's why the Yamaha YZ250F is the better bike in this match-up.

Furthermore, there are so many variables to consider because not every rider is the same and rides similar terrain. If you have a big bank and want to be on par by technology standards then the 250F is the bike for you. If listening to a two-stroke WOT is music to your hears, and you want to learn better riding techniques as well as a bike that's easier to maintain then a YZ125 is a perfect bike.

Remember... whatever bike you choose, have fun and ride hard! Good luck!
